Artist Talk / Aka Chang (TWN) – RING: KOSMOLOGIA
Artist Talk / October 8, 2026 / 11:00 AM / Atrium of the Faculty of Arts, TUKE
The Faculty of Arts of the Technical University of Košice cordially invites you to a meeting with Taiwanese artist Aka Chang, author of the light kinetic installation RING: KOSMOLOGIA. The Artist Talk will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Atrium of the Faculty of Arts, TUKE, under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Richard Kitta, and in collaboration with the Biela noc 2026.
RING: KOSMOLOGIA is an optical-kinetic installation based on elementary movement, light, and a circular object. The title refers to the Greek origin of the word kosmologia—the study of the universe, its structure, time, and space. Aka Chang works with visual minimalism, reducing the image down to the very essence of light. The viewer's attention thus shifts from reading an image and its narrative to observing the texture of light, its movement, and its trajectory in space. The slow rotation of the object creates a constantly changing light condition and opens up the perception of an alternative time—its passage, deceleration, or apparent standstill. At the same time, the installation raises the question of what it truly means to "immerse" oneself in an artistic environment. Here, the immersive experience is created not merely through technology or space, but primarily through human perception. The viewer becomes a natural part of the artwork while simultaneously observing their own presence in relation to space, time, and a broader cosmic context.
The Artist Talk will introduce Aka Chang's work, the concept of the RING: KOSMOLOGIA project, and his perspective on light, kinetic objects, space, and human perception in contemporary art.
