Recyklart in Ljubljana
At the turn of July and August, students from the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University of Košice (FU TUKE) had the opportunity to take part in the Recyklart creative symposium in Ljubljana. During the week-long workshop, students from FU TUKE, the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica (AU BB), the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), and the Ljubljana Faculty of Arts gathered on site. They worked under the mentorship of Aleksandar Božić, alongside FU TUKE faculty members Erik Sikora and Oto Hudec.
In an extremely short frame of time, the students created compelling artworks centered around the theme of food—"Abundance and Scarcity of Food"—addressing topics such as sustainable production, food shortages, health impacts, consumerism, and social inequality. Food, once a vital driving force of life that connected people to nature and the land, has gradually—and recently at an exponential rate—become a mere commodity: something existing in a world where food is abundant for some and scarce for others. The outcomes of the workshop were exhibited at the Alkatraz Gallery, located in the charismatic Metelkova autonomous cultural center.
Both the symposium and the resulting exhibition unfolded as a process—visitors were able to witness the community creation of the exhibition and the artworks themselves. The exhibition runs from July 31 to August 28. The installation was completed on Friday, August 7, 2026, accompanied by the event opening, festival activities, and a reception.
Residents of Košice can also look forward to a continuation of the exhibition, which will open at the Campus Gallery next spring.
